Good Government Requires Engaged Citizens
"The number one question that I got when I ran for the Utah Legislature was, 'What is the Utah Legislature?' I explained that it was like Congress, but at the state level, a few people asked me what Congress was. I am glad they felt comfortable asking me, and it started me thinking about how I could teach about civics in Utah, in a way that I would find enjoyable."

Frequently Asked Questions:
-
Can I share this with friends who live outside of Utah?
- Many of the activities are applicable for anyone living in the United States, however most states do not have a caucus/convention system like Utah does. Each state is responsible for their own elections and the path for a candidate to get on the ballot will vary from state to state. Those who live outside of Utah can still find benefit, so long as they understand their state may operate differently.
-
Can I share this with my class or with a neighborhood group?
- Absolutely, Archie Civics can be printed for personal, non-commercial use.
-
The book mentions County Commissioners, isn’t the county run by the County Mayor?
- Most counties in Utah have County Commissioners; Salt Lake County has a County Mayor and County Council. It was a conscious decision to only mention County Commissioners in order to keep things simple.
