FAQ

Q: How does registering with Forward affect my ability to vote in primaries in Utah?

A: It depends on which party primary you want to vote in, since you are only allowed to vote in one. The Republican party has closed primaries, meaning you must be a registered Republican to vote in their primary election. The Forward and Democratic parties hold open primaries. For any open primary party, you simply have to request the primary ballot of the party you want, or else you will be sent the ballot of the party you are affiliated with. If you are unaffiliated, you can still request a primary ballot for an open primary party. For other parties, please contact them directly for information on their primary processes.

Q: Are "Forward Party of Utah" and "Utah Forward Party" the same thing? And "Utah Forward" or "Forward" as listed in voter registration?

A: Yes. These are all the same. We were originally "Utah Forward Party", but after the 2025 merger with the United Utah party, we became "Forward Party of Utah". The shortened title for the party for the purposes of voter registration is "Forward".

Q: I was previously registered as United Utah party. Do I need to update my registration?

A: Yes. Voters who were under United Utah will need to update their registration to Forward.

Q: Did Forward have a primary election in 2024?

A: No. There were no opposed candidates in 2024 so our primary was cancelled.

Q: What are the benefits of registering with Forward?

A: Registered party members can vote as delegates on party nominees, officers, and changes to governing documents at county and state conventions. Currently, one must be a registered party member to serve in county party, state central, and executive committee roles. And you get to help build momentum for the coolest new party in Utah!
